On Sunday, July 1st, the Young Dubliners continued their 2018 US Summer tour at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, California, after spending a month in winter touring Ireland and Denmark. Formed in 1988 and billed as a Celtic Rock band from Los Angeles, the Young Dubliners have released nine albums of original music and one album of Irish covers. Their tour will hit up many festivals and clubs throughout the country, and if you check their schedule there might be a show near you.
From the “9” album, “Abhainn Mor” played over the sound system as the members of Young Dubliners came out onto a dark stage to pick up their instruments. As the lights came up, “We the Mighty” exploded, filling the venue with sound and showering light over the quickly growing audience. The young lads were looking spry, running around the stage without missing a beat. Their sound was polished and clean as they rolled into “Fall” from their 2014 “9” album, and then “Brown Dog” from their 2002 “Absolutely” album. Keith Roberts was on lead vocals and guitar; Chas Waltz on violin, keyboards and mandolin; Brendan Holmes on vocals and bass; Dave Ingraham in the back on drums, and new member Justin Pecot playing lively on guitar and vocals. They continued their set with songs from the beloved “All Due Respect” album with Irish covers, and songs from their 2009 “Saints and Sinners” album. The venue continued to fill up with loyal fans and the “Young Dubs” showed no signs of slowing down, showing their love of the fans predominantly throughout the show.
The Young Dubliners will continue the California leg of their 2018 US Summer Tour on Friday, July 6 at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach and Saturday, July 7 at Coach House Concert Hall in San Juan Capistrano before heading out to Sturgis on Friday, July 20th at Loud American Roadhouse in Sturgis, South Dakota.
